History
The North Miami Commission for Women was established by Ordinance 1461 on January 26, 2021, by Mary Estimé-Irvin to advise the City Council and City Manager on issues impacting women and girls. Guided by its motto, “Rooted in service, rising for change,” the Commission advances equity, opportunity, and access throughout the community.
Following the inaugural statewide meeting of Commissions on the Status of Women and Girls in Tallahassee, and under the leadership of Naomi Esther Blemur, the Commission hosted The State of Women & Girls in Florida: A Community Dialogue on October 21, 2025. The dialogue resulted in a unanimous vote to establish the Miami-Dade Women’s Summit.
Purpose
Launched during Miami-Dade 250, the Inaugural Miami-Dade Women’s Summit marks a historic moment as, for the first time, Commissions for Women and women leaders from across government, business, advocacy, and community sectors unite under one shared vision for Miami-Dade County.
More than a summit, this gathering serves as a catalyst for collaboration, innovation, and collective action — creating lasting impact for women, girls, and families throughout our community.
Overview
The Miami-Dade Women’s Summit is dedicated to uniting municipal Commissions for Women and women leaders across all sectors through shared purpose, strategic collaboration, and intentional leadership. By highlighting best practices, strengthening partnerships, and addressing critical challenges, the Summit seeks to expand opportunities for women and girls throughout Miami-Dade County.
This historic countywide gathering will convene women leaders from the state, county, and municipal levels alongside business executives, advocacy organizations, educators, entrepreneurs, and community stakeholders to foster connection, inspire innovation, and drive collective impact across our community.
