Sheyla Jimenez ~ The NEW face of
The Miami Moms
Where are you from originally and how long have you lived in town?
I was born in Havana, Cuba and came to Miami when I was 5 years old. I have been living here ever since and I love it.
How many kids do you have and what are their ages?
We have two kids. Ethan is 4 years old and he just started Pre-K. He is just the sweetest boy you will meet, he is always saying hi to everyone he sees. He is also my random hug and kiss giver. Emma is my baby girl, she is our quarantine baby. She just turned 1 in August and she is full of personality. She is a really girly girl and loves all her plush toys. They are both so full of energy and they really keep me on my toes, but I love it.
One thing people would be surprised to know about you…
I love planning my kids birthday parties and I am involved in every detail. I usually start planning almost a year in advance and we go all out with the theme. For Ethan’s birthdays we have done, farm, transportation, Peter Rabbit (his birthday was on Easter Sunday), Thomas the Train, and we already have the theme picked out for his next birthday in April. It will be dinosaur themed and I have already started searching and buying items. For Emma’s first birthday, we did Emma in Onederland and I’m still figuring out what she likes so we can decide on a theme for her second birthday.
Anyone special you’d like to thank for helping you through parenthood?
My mom, she has been helping me with the kids from the very beginning. She was the one that took care of Ethan when we had to go back to work, so we didn’t need to put him in daycare. Now that I am at home with the kids she is still helping me by making them her famous purée. She is always a phone call away and I know I can count on here for anything.
Favorite things to do with your kids?
We love doing everything with our kids. We especially like to go out and visit new places with them. We also love to travel with them. We go on many mini vacations throughout the year to different places in Florida, like Orlando, Daytona Beach, St. Augustine, etc., and then we like to do one or two big trips. With Ethan back in 2019 before the pandemic we were lucky enough to take him to Hawaii, California, and France. With Emma we have done many mini trips mostly to the beach. We also did a road trip to Georgia, but we haven’t flown anywhere with her yet. We hope to start traveling again in 2022.
Are you involved in a business venture, a local organization, a creative endeavor, or in the corporate world? Please share!
I am currently managing the Miami Moms and earlier this year I started an Instagram account called ecjandme where I share my adventures with my two kids. I also share many craft and activity ideas to do with the kids. In addition I started selling fun holiday craft/activity kits for kids. I have done Valentines Day, St. Patrick’s, and Halloween kits. I might do a Christmas Kit next and next year I want to add an Easter and summer kit. I have a blog for this account but I haven’t written in it yet; that is my next step. I want to share all of my craft ideas and highlight everything that goes behind planning their birthdays. Before this I was in the corporate world until May of this year, I was in the media industry for over 10 years and got to work for great companies like MediaCom (WPP), 21st Century Fox and the Walt Disney Company. I enjoyed my time in this industry but I’m excited for this new chapter of my life. Now I am able to work my own schedule and spend more time with my kids.
What is your favorite restaurant in Miami?
There are so many great restaurants in Miami. Honestly, we haven’t been going out to restaurants as much as we used to but we recently discovered this Italian restaurant in Miami Lakes called Trattoria Pampered Chef and we absolutely love it. The food is delicious (we love Italian food) and the service is great. The kids also love it and on Friday nights they have live entertainment. Ethan loves picking songs for them to sing. We probably eat there at least once a month, since we discovered it.
What is your favorite activity to do with your child(ren) in Miami?
We love visiting all the fun attractions around Miami. We love going to the beach, parks, zoo and museums. The kids have such a great time wherever we take them that it motivates us to keep finding new places for them to explore.
