One local teacher will be selected to receive classroom supplies and Amazon gift cards
Westend on 87th, a retail destination in the heart of Doral, is excited to launch its 2nd Annual Teacher Recognition and School/Classroom Supply Drive. The annual recognition invites the public to nominate a special teacher working in the City of Doral for a chance to win $250 in Amazon gift cards and complimentary school and classroom supplies.
“As a local business owner and operator, I take great pride in supporting the community that Westend on 87th and our tenants serve. As a mother, I am grateful for the critical role that teachers play in our children’s lives. Many go above and beyond their role as educators to ensure the overall well being and mental health of their students, making a positive impact and lasting impressions. I am honored for the opportunity to recognize these special educators in our community for their dedication to our youth,” said Silvia J Fernandez, Westend’s Managing Director.
Nominations will be accepted from Monday, July 24 through Monday, August 7. Anyone is welcome to submit a nomination, including parents, students, staff / faculty members, teachers themselves (self nominations are accepted) or friends. To be considered, teachers must work in the City of Doral. Nominations can be submitted at WestendShoppeson87.com/events.
The winning teacher will be announced on August 15 via the Westend Instagram page and a school/classroom supply drive will commence to benefit the teacher and their classroom. Following the supply drive, the selected teacher will be awarded $250 in Amazon gift cards courtesy of Westend on 87th as well as the donated supplies collected during the drive. The teacher’s supply wish list will be available to view at WestendShoppesOn87.com. Donations can be dropped off at Westend on 87th (2600 NW 87th Avenue) at Unit 33 from Monday through Friday, 9am to 4pm.
The local teacher recognition and school/classroom supply drive is just one of several ways Westend on 87 actively supports the community throughout the year, with a focus on wellness and youths. The female-led, family-owned shopping center has served the Doral community for over 20 years and takes pride in being a community partner.
Last year’s teacher honoree was Ms. Analia Sanchez-Bellizzi of Ronald E. Reagan Senior High School who was nominated by Trust Counselor Mayte Sotomayer. Ms. Bellizzi was selected for her work as a high school teacher, and dedication to her students. She launched a virtual knitting club in the midst of the pandemic to ensure no student felt alone, and continues to drive efforts to support her students and create a school that is safe, supportive, and inclusive. Following the recognition, Westend on 87th has collaborated with Ronald E. Reagan Senior High School on several initiatives to support teachers, students, and parents.
“We enjoyed the opportunity to spotlight Ms. Bellizzi last year and the partnership we have built with Ronald Reagan Senior High School.
